Learn to skate
Nobody is
born knowing.
LRN 2 SK8 is our beginner class, taught on our own floor by our own staff, three times a week. Kids and adults, first-timers welcome, and nobody minds how many times you land on the carpet.
$11 covers skate rental, the class, and the public session straight afterwards — so you get to use what you just learned while it is still fresh.
When it runs
Class times
Two on Tuesday, one on Saturday morning. Turn up ten minutes early so we can fit your skates properly — it makes a bigger difference than anything else we will tell you.

What to expect
Your first hour
-
1
Getting the skates on
We fit them properly. Most first-timers have them far too loose, which is exactly why they fall.
-
2
Standing up and stopping
Stopping comes before going. Once you can stop, the rest of it stops being frightening.
-
3
Onto the floor
Class rolls straight into the public session, and it is included. Most people stay on for the whole thing.
Where it goes
Built for
progress
Lrn2Sk8 is designed to do more than get you rolling. We teach skating from the ground up, breaking each skill down into the basic physics, body mechanics and movement that make skating work — so skaters build the balance, control and confidence to progress, wherever they want skating to take them. The program runs in three progressive levels, and every skater moves through them at their own pace.
-
1
The fundamentals
Everyone starts by mastering the essentials. Pass your first skills test and you move up.
-
2
Yellow level
Learning becomes individually tracked. Every skater gets a personal progress card, and it stays here with us.
No need to come every week. Turn up when your schedule allows, pick up exactly where you left off, and keep working toward the next achievement.
-
3
Green level
The same step-by-step approach applied to more advanced skating. Every new skill builds on the ones before it — strong, capable skaters rather than a handful of isolated tricks.
And it doesn’t have to end there
Skaters who complete the program and want to stay involved can become a Skate Buddy — developing their own skating and leadership while helping newer skaters learn the fundamentals they once worked at themselves. A chance to learn by teaching, and to give something back to the next lot coming through.
Whether the goal is simply to feel comfortable at a public skating session or to eventually pursue advanced skating, our philosophy is the same:
Master the basics. Understand how skating works. Build one skill upon the next — and create a foundation that can take you as far as you want to go.
Questions
The ones we get asked
- Do we need our own skates?
- No. The $11 all-ages class includes rental. The adult class is covered by Rhythm Night admission and rental is separate — $3 for quads, $4 for inlines. If you have your own, bring them, as long as they are indoor skates with no plastic toe stops.
- How young can they start?
- If they can walk confidently, they can start. For younger ones, Tiny Tot on Saturday mornings is the gentler way in — ages 12 and under, slower music, fewer people, and one parent skates for $5 with each paid child admission.
- I am an adult who has never skated. Really?
- Really. The adult class runs on Tuesday nights for exactly this, and admission to Rhythm Night covers it. Most people in it either never learned or have not skated since they were fifteen.
- Do I need to book?
- No — turn up and pay at the window. If you are bringing a group of more than a few, call ahead so we can put enough staff on the floor.
- What happens if they love it?
- Then there is somewhere to go. LRN 2 SK8 is the first step of the Skating School — dance, singles and figures, two shows a year, and competitive coaching for anyone who eventually wants it. Plenty of skaters stop here and that is a success too.
- Should they wear pads?
- Wrist guards are the ones worth having. Falls go onto hands first almost every time.
Just turn up
No booking, no sign-up. Arrive ten minutes before the class, pay at the window, and we will do the rest. Call if you want to check anything first.
